School Definitions
University – An institution of higher learning
providing facilities for teaching and research and authorized to
grant academic degrees; specifically: one made up of an undergraduate
division which confers bachelor’s degrees and a graduate division
which may confer a master’s and doctorate.
College – Part of a university offering
a specialized group of courses. (ex. The College of Nursing at the
University of North Carolina).
State University – A university maintained
and administered by one of the states of the U.S. as part of the
state public educational system.
Private University – A privately funded
university.
Community/Junior College – A two-year Government
supported college that offers an associate degree.
