Community Involvement

Allegacy Federal Credit Union believes giving back to the community supports the credit union industry's motto of "People Helping People."

Since Allegacy is a non-profit organization, and our funds are limited, we choose to support the arts, education, health and community service organizations and events.

The Park, conceived by Allegacy after several of our staff found themselves struggling with breast or ovarian cancers, is located on the grounds of the credit union's 10-acre administrative headquarters campus. The result is a beautiful and tranquil escape for survivors, their families, and anyone whose life has been touched by breast or ovarian cancer.

Listed below are a few events we are involved in:

Cancer Services, Inc.

The 9th Annual "Don't Wait" Benefit Golf Tournament was held October 4, 2007 at Bermuda Run Country Club

To date, the DW Golf Tournament has donated more than $387,000 to Cancer Services, Inc., to support their dedication to patient services and community relations. This money goes directly to breast and ovarian cancer survivors, and women in the community who want to learn prevention and early detection techniques. The contributions from the tournament mean more breast and ovarian cancer survivors can receive assistance and each can receive more in-depth help than ever before.

United Way Day of Caring

The Annual United Way Laurence E. Richardson Days of Caring were held September 20th and 21st, 2004. More than a dozen volunteers from Allegacy assisted two United Way agencies with a landscaping project and a Savings & Investment seminar. The Days of Caring was established in 1992 by the United Way to promote the spirit and value of volunteerism, increase the awareness of local human service agencies and schools, and demonstrate what people working together for the community's good can accomplish.

Race for the Cure

Team Allegacy was proud—once again—to be part of the Komen NC Triad Race for the Cure® We again partnered with Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center as local presenting sponsors.

At this year's Race, more than $500,000 was raised and more than 10,000 individuals were there on Race day, including 500 breast cancer survivors.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

Allegacy Financial Centers initiated many fundraising activities, in addition to participating in the annual 4.5 mile walk at Wake Forest University. We sold JDRF "sneakers" in an effort to raise money for JDRF research and held bake, hotdog, pizza, ice cream and candy bar sales plus an intranet auction! Allegacy is proud to have raised $24,202 for JDRF in 2007! The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation was founded in 1970 by parents of children with diabetes. Their mission: to find a cure for the disease and its complications through the support of research.

Tour to Tanglewood

September 15th & 16th, 2007 was Team Allegacy's seventh year participating in the Tour to Tanglewood. Sponsored by the Central NC Chapter of the MS Society, the event is a 2-day, 90-mile bike tour to raise money to support MS research efforts as well as local families affected by the disease. In 2006, Team Allegacy contributed over $23,200 towards an event total of over $1 million. If you would like to ride with Team Allegacy or make a donation, please visit the team web site at www.TeamAllegacy.org.

Hispanic League of the Piedmont Triad (HLPT)

One of the benefits of membership in the Hispanic League is the opportunity to join Allegacy and take advantage of the credit union's financial services. Allegacy partners with HLPT in planning and working on Spanish Nite, a fundraiser for the HLPT Scholarship awards, as well as Fiesta, a multi-cultural street fair.
