WebBanking™ Security

WebBanking is a very secure way to manage your accounts. Multiple layers of protectioin are used to create a secure environment while you exchange financial information between your computer and the credit union's computers via the Internet.

Why is WebBanking Secure?

To use WebBanking, your web browser software is required to have 128-bit encryption. This is one of the highest levels of encryption available today. This encryption puts the information that is being transmitted into a "secret code" that cannot be used by anyone else because it is set between your browser and Allegacy.

When you first sign on to WebBanking, the computer checks to see if it can communicate using a 128-bit encryption key. Your computer and the credit union's computers randomly pick numbers that serve as the "key" during the time you are logged in. This is called Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). Because the number of "keys" that can be selected is so large, it is virutually impossible for the number to be guessed as the information is being transmitted.

Enhanced Login Security adds an additional layer of security when you log in to your account. By selecting "Enhanced Login Security" from the Preferences link within WebBanking, you can identify your computer(s), so that challenge questions will need to be answered in addition to your password if you or anyone else tries to access your account from a computer you have not identified as your own.

Security At Your Computer

Whereever you access your accounts online, at home, or at the office, or elsewhere, security begins by protecting your password. Your password should be kept confidential and you should not select passwords that could be easily guessed by others, such as birthdays or names of family and pets.

To keep your home or work computer secure, be sure to:

  • Run anti-virus software and keep it up to date
  • Run anti-spyware software and keep it up to date
  • Run a software or hardware firewall
  • Keep your software and operating system patched with the latest security updates
